Ukraine because Eurovision is waiting for a new boom of hostels

Last year for the Ukrainian hostels were not the best — many were standing half empty. Flop was and the current may day celebrations. However, the owners cheap hotels expect to improve their business this summer.

"In may of Kiev hostels are well filled on the weekends, and mostly groups. As for the rest of the days races was much less than last year", —said Vice-President of all-Ukrainian hostel Association Elena Ivashchenko.

But in the summer the owners of the hostels expect the influx of tourists. And if in times when customer was very bad, mini-hotels were forced to lower prices on 10 – 40 UAH per person per day, if all goes according to plan, prices will rise.

To date, the cost of accommodation at a standard hostel in multi-bed rooms, on average, ranges from 100 to 150 UAH per person per day. The double will have to pay 350 – 500 UAH.

"In the summer the price will start from 130 UAH in a shared room and 400 UAH for a double room. A price increase of 10-20% is scheduled for July-August", — said the administration of Odessa hostels Star and Star-2.

LESS FOREIGNERS.
The reservation period often depend on the purpose of the trip, saying "hoteliers". Tourist groups stay one or two nights, sports competitions and conferences for three or four. Tourists – "loner" please book them a bed for 2-4 nights. In Odessa can stay up to a week.

"It changed the portrait of an average of the guest — now it's mainly domestic tourists for whom the most important is the price," said the owner of a network of mini-hotels DREAM Hostel Eugene Lavrenyuk.

To earn the loyalty of customers, many hostels offer free tea and coffee, arrange trips, etc. With food prefer not to get involved, but can tell you the coordinates of a cheap canteen.

Despite the crisis in Ukraine continue to open new hostels. Monthly himself at least 1 – 2 objects, adhere to the standards of Hostelling International. In the capital you receive on average 3 to 4 new mini-hotel of the year.

Surge potential investors may be under the Eurovision song contest in 2017. While those wishing to start such a business, it should be understood that only one song contest, though, and on a European scale, which lasts only a week, not able to recoup the opening of the hotel, say hoteliers".

Even many of the current owners need to improve the services and to rely on attracting European music lovers. However, the opportunity to earn extra money all the same will appear.

"Prices will likely rise times in the 2-3, especially considering that they are now at a critically low level for Europe," said Lavrenyuk.

However, according to Ivashchenko, the experience of the last Eurovision and Euro 2012, those who drastically raised their prices — burned, and those who increased their max by 50%, were able to capitalize and was satisfied.

But in any case, the occupancy must be of good, experts say. "Although the experience of the past Eurovision, still came to less people than we expected. The main visitors were the official delegations and journalists, and they settled mainly in hotels," — said Ivashchenko.

The situation could improve the adoption of legislation on standardization and control of the hostels in Ukraine. Because there are so many "shelters", which, although they call themselves hostels, but in fact are not. However, their target audience, rather, not tourists, and workers.
