Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt Becomes Co-Owner of Kyiv Commercial Real Estate

The renowned Silicon Valley executive, together with philanthropist Wendy Schmidt, invested in seven companies of the Dragon Capital group, which own prime commercial real estate in the Ukrainian capital. According to a report by Forbes Ukraine, the transaction closed in late May – early June 2026.

Assets included in the deal

The Schmidt couple now holds a 36% stake in each of the seven companies. The portfolio includes:

  • Eurasia and Prime business centres;

  • Piramida mixed-use office and retail complex;

  • East Gate Logistic warehouse facility.

Operational management of these properties remains with Dragon Capital. The investment was made via the Cypriot holding company New Ukraine PE Holding Limited, which controls Dragon Capital’s Ukrainian assets.

Ownership structure after the deal

Following the transaction, the holding’s ownership is distributed as follows:

  • 42% – British investors Anton Shreider and Maxim Klimov (co-founders of Again Investments);

  • 36% – Eric and Wendy Schmidt;

  • ~22% – the family trust of Dragon Capital founder Tomas Fiala.

Market experts’ opinion and deal value

Analysts at Forbes Ukraine estimate the deal value at $55–70 million. Market experts note that for Dragon Capital, bringing in new co-owners means risk diversification, additional capital, and enhanced investment appeal of its portfolio.

For foreign investors, Ukrainian commercial real estate remains an opportunity to acquire assets at prices still below pre-war levels, with growth potential once the security and economic situation stabilises.

Additional factors attracting investors, according to experts, include:

  • the gradual development of war risk insurance mechanisms;

  • the ability to repatriate dividends for foreign investors.

Financial performance of the assets

According to Forbes Ukraine, the properties involved in the deal saw revenue growth of 10–24% in 2025.

Who are Eric and Wendy Schmidt?

Eric Schmidt, 71, served as CEO of Google from 2001 to 2011 and later as Chairman of Google and Alphabet. He currently invests in artificial intelligence and leads the space company Relativity Space. Wendy Schmidt is known as a philanthropist and co-founder of several charitable and scientific foundations.
