Infrastructure Renewal in Ukraine: Two Regions Lead the Way in Road Repair Pace and Quality

Improving transport accessibility is a direct driver of investment appeal and housing market activity in Ukraine’s regions. Large-scale road surface renewal is now underway across the country, but the undisputed leaders in terms of completing planned works are Kyiv and Khmelnytskyi regions.

According to the latest figures, the capital region not only boasts the highest schedule completion rate (70%) but also the largest physical volume of newly laid pavement—940,000 square metres. Khmelnytskyi region follows with a 67% completion rate. Kirovohrad region also ranks among the top three in total volume, with 912,000 sq m of roads already renewed.

This was announced by Oleksii Kuleba, Minister for Communities and Territories Development, who also stressed a separate focus on frontline regions, where repair crews continue working despite the difficult security situation.

How the main highways are being repaired

Since the beginning of the year, nearly 9 million square metres of road surface have been renewed nationwide, and the 10 million mark is expected to be reached by 1 June. Every day, over 200 contracting crews and around 2,000 road workers are deployed on the country’s highways.

The preferred technology in most regions is “patching by map” (large-area patching). This method makes it possible to quickly eliminate major surface defects and significantly improve driving comfort and safety—an aspect especially relevant for suburban property owners who use these routes on a daily basis.

The active phase of works is focused on strategic international and regional transport corridors. Among the priority routes, where improved logistics can boost demand for nearby housing and land plots, are:

  • M-03 (Kyiv – Kharkiv – Dovzhanskyi)

  • M-05 (Kyiv – Odesa)

  • M-06 (Kyiv – Chop)

  • M-29 (Kharkiv – Krasnohrad – Pereshchepyne – Dnipro)

  • M-30 (Stryi – Uman – Dnipro – Izvaryne)

The restoration of these motorways not only stimulates economic growth, but also creates new attractiveness hotspots for development and individual residential construction in communities that are gaining reliable connections with regional centres.
