Kyiv has a new tourist reputation

Consulting firm Mercer released its annual list of the most expensive capitals in the world. So, life in Kiev due to the devaluation of the hryvnia, according to the study, dropped twice in dollar terms (in national currency and, accordingly, rose) — 98-th place, the capital of our country dropped to 184.

Ukrainians, however, it will not be happy, because if prices in dollars have declined, in UAH increased, while the gains in the dollar plummeted. So, for the rent of a Studio apartment on the outskirts you have to pay $220 (about 5 thousand) at an average salary of $275, not to mention more costly at times the communal.

Dinner for two in a middling restaurant in the capital of Ukraine now is about $23 (500 UAH). In the ranking of Kiev were in the neighborhood with African countries — Uganda and Zambia. So we profitable to live foreigners and Ukrainians who get paid in dollars (the programmers and employees in multinational companies).

Moscow and the Baltic States lost ground

The record dropped from 9th to 50th place and Moscow, which has in recent years consistently ranks in the top ten most expensive cities in the world. The reason for such a sharp depreciation of the weakening of the ruble and Western sanctions over Ukraine.

However, in Moscow, is still more expensive to live compared to other cities of the FSU, and some European capitals. Say, Berlin is located on 56 positions below, and Rome — 9.

In the Russian capital dinner costs about $50 (more than 1000 UAH), bread in the store is 70 cents (15 USD), pounds chicken Breasts — $5 (greater than 100 UAH), rent one-room flat in a residential area — $725 (about 16 thousand UAH), and Muscovites get on average just over $1000. From the Russian cities in the list included St. Petersburg, which fell below that of Moscow, almost at the end of the list — with the 35th 152-th line.

And Central Asia grew

Lost ground (though not as dramatically as we) and the Baltic countries: Latvia, Riga has moved from 75 to 111th place, 45 lines fell, the capital of Estonia — Tallinn (110th place), and Lithuanian Vilnius dropped from 130 to 171-th line. By the way, prices Ukraine is almost on par with a member of the EU Lithuania. Rent an apartment in Vilnius is $285 (slightly more than 6 thousand UAH) at the salary of almost $700 (15 thousand). Dinner for two is more expensive than us, only $4. Chicken breast is also cheap — $2,5 (55 USD) per kg.

Fell also the capital of Armenia — from 187 to 192 place, Tbilisi — from 194 to 198, and the Minsk — from 191 to 200. it is most Advantageous to foreigners to live in Kyrgyzstan Bishkek, which was the cheapest city. At an average salary of $366 a communal flat there costs $50, and the bread is 40 cents.

Interestingly, some cities of Central Asia, on the contrary, have risen in price. The capital of Uzbekistan gained 22 "points", and now Tashkent took 162 th place in the ranking. Almaty has also risen, up from 111th in 94th position. Fast-growing Kazakh capital — not a cheap city. Room for rent on the periphery there is an average of $325 (7 th), and communal — almost $100. The average salary in Almaty — almost $700.

Angola is the most expensive

Top ten most expensive cities in the world, which include three Swiss cities and five Asian cities (Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul), headed by, oddly enough, African capital Luanda (Angola). This city was named the most expensive in the world last year.

A poor African country was more expensive in Europe and the USA. In Angola mine diamonds and oil, is coming to work a lot of foreigners at a salary of $5-15 million (local survive on $50 a month), which partly explains the high prices. In addition, because of the bad crime situation the expats here have to overpay for everything to live in security.

And yet most of the products in Angola imported, and therefore very expensive. The Burger there is almost $20, a Cup of coffee is $4, bread — almost $2. Rent an apartment in Luanda you at least $3 thousand plus communal — still under $300.

Compared with new York

When evaluating the cost of living in more than 200 cities around the world consulting company takes into account many different parameters, such as housing prices, household goods, transport, food, clothing, entertainment.

Base city new York, with whom he is compared to all other cities. Analysts also take into account the fluctuations of the dollar. "This year they were especially acute," explained consultant at Mercer Kate Fitzpatrick. By the way, the reference NY — 16-m a place, without changing its position over the last year.

To eat in fast food in the "capital of the world" is almost $10 (200 UAH), the bread is almost $3 (about 60 USD), apartment on the outskirts of under $2 million (40 UAH), and communal — for about $200. But in this case, and the average salary here is $3.5 thousand (about 80 thousand UAH).

The study, which Mercer is already 21 years old, is held primarily for multinational companies to help them calculate salary for their staff working abroad.
